About Us
Our Mission
PHP Animal Shelter has proudly been a part of the Burlington and Vermont community for over 15 years. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comfort and care to animals without homes, and finding safe new families for them as well. Our goal is to reduce the population of stray nd suffering animals in Chittenden county and surrounding areas. We do this by taking in animals that are surrendered to us, rescuing animals that are reported as strays or victims of abuse, and spaying and neutering all animals that come to us.
No-kill Policy
Our shelter is a no-kill shelter, meaning that we will not euthanize animals based on their time spent at the shelter. When our occupancy is past its maximum capacity, we host public adoption events, or find other no-kill shelters that have extra space. We believe that every animal has the right to life, and has a forever home somewhere, which is why we aim to keep our animals healthy and happy for the entirety of their stay at our shelter. Of course, when an animal's quality of life is crippled by age or illness, we discuss the options for care, which in some cases may be to put the animal down.
News and Events

Holiday Adoption Day
Holidays are for spending time with family, which is why this time of the year is perfect for making news additions to your family! Come by the shelter on December 7, 2019 for our annual Holiday Adoption Event and experience the holiday cheer that our animals will give to you! We will be giving out desserts, hot chocolate, and discounts, and we will be having a 50/50 raffle. If you are looking to do some giving during this special season, why not give an animal in need of love a forever home! We would like to remind our customers that animals are not for giving to others as surprises. If you are looking to give a pet as a present this holiday season, please make sure that the recipient is aware and willing to take on the responsibility of care of the animal. Otherwise, making a donation to our shelter in someone else's name makes a great gift as well!

Protect Your Paws!
It's that time of year again, the days are getting colder, the snow is falling, and salt is being spread! Large ice or salt chunks can cause cuts or scrapes on paws, and prolonged exposure to road salt can cause chemical burns. Be sure to protect your dog's paws by using booties, washing the paws with a rag and warm water. If your dog's paws become over-dry or cracked, apply a natural moisturizer such as Bag Balm for treatment. Healthy paws makes for happy pets!
